Tuesday Talks: Can you hear God's heart?

BlessTheKing, Fam!

Is your hEARt nEAR to hEAR what the Lord is saying to the church?

Read Joel 2:12-13…

"Now, therefore," says the Lord,

"Turn to Me with all your heart,

With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning."

So rend your heart, and not your garments;

Return to the Lord your God,

For He is gracious and merciful,

Slow to anger, and of great kindness;

And He relents from doing harm.

Joel was a prophet to Judah. His assignment was to warn God's people of the impending doom they would experience because of their sinfulness. History places his preaching between 835-796 B.C., during the reign of King Joash. Although he preached well over 2,000 years ago, Joel's message to ancient Judah is for God's people today.

Even now, our God is saying return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning. God doesn't just want us to be remorseful but repentant. Rend your heart, not your clothing, because the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit (Psalm 34).

Return to your God, who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounds in steadfast love, and relents from punishment.
